EXIM Thailand Wins Best Green Bond Award
EXIM Thailand has received Best Green Bond Award in the Financial Institution Category from The Asset Triple A Awards 2022, a global industry excellence recognition organized by The Asset which is Asia’s leading finance magazine for EXIM Thailand’s issue and offering of 5-billion baht dual-tranche Green Bond to raise funds for lending to clean energy projects. The Green Bond was well responded by leading investors and carried attractive coupon rates amid the volatile money market conditions and the upward trend of interest rates.
Mr. Rak Vorrakitpokatorn, President of Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), revealed that the Best Green Bond Award in the Financial Institutions Category, which is a global prestigious accolade from The Asset Triple A Awards 2022, represents the success of EXIM Thailand under its role as Thailand Development Bank aiming to drive development in economic, social and environmental dimensions in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) guideline and the declaration jointly made by Thai government at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26) targeting to achieve net-zero emissions by 2065. EXIM Thailand has planned to consistently raise funds under its sustainable finance framework and operate business according to its responsible finance management policy and sustainable development policy.
The 5-billion baht dual-tranche Green Bond has Asian Development Bank (ADB) as the Bond Advisor working out the sustainable finance framework, Government Savings Bank as the Underwriter, and Bank of Ayudhya as the Underwriter and Registrar. The issuance of the Green Bond was made on September 9, 2022 under the volatile money market and rising interest circumstances and was well responded by top investors.
“EXIM Thailand has so far rendered financial facilities to businesses in the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economy representing over 30% of its entire loan portfolio or accounting for around 50 billion baht. Looking forward, the Bank has targeted to continue to grow BCG loans in order to join global community in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to achieve carbon neutrality. Close and vigorous collaboration will be made with both the public and private entities concerned to promote and develop the recycling system for resource optimization and building Thai supply chains in linkage with clean global supply chains toward sustainable development of all sectors,” added Mr. Rak.
