CIMB Thai appoints Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin as Board Chairman
CIMB Thai Bank today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin bin Raja Abdul Aziz as its new Board Chairman and Director of CIMB Thai Bank. The appointment took effect on 19 July 2024.
Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin succeeded Dato’ Robert Cheim Dau Meng, who retired.
Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin has been appointed as Non-Independent Director of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad on 1 July 2024. Formerly the Chief Investment Officer at Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah), the sovereign wealth fund of Malaysia, he served Khazanah in various senior positions such as Deputy Managing Director and Executive Director of Investments since 2011. Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin was also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines, and was previously Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to that he was in multiple leadership roles at Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and Hong Kong. He is currently the Chair of the Board of CelcomDigi Berhad, a leading Malaysian telecommunications company and Independent Non-Executive Director of Sime Darby Berhad, a large Malaysian-listed conglomerate. He is also a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin holds a degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He is a Chartered Accountant and an Associate Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
