Thai Industrial Standards Institute Prepares New Air Con Standards.
Cope With Hotter Weather.
27-5-2019 – Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is preparing to adjust the new air-conditioning standards, increasing the amount of combustible refrigerants, focus on safety to cope with hotter air.
“The new standard will be set to prevent electrical access, heat generation, leakage current moisture resistance, overload protection of transformers, heat and fire resistance and rust resistance.
These requirements are in both the original standard and the new standard, but TISI will make the new standard stricter for more secured.
The original standard does not have a requirement to control a safe amount of combustible refrigerant quantities, but it will be in the newly defined requirement to take care of safety.”
Mr. Wanchai Phanomchai, Secretary-General of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute.
Mr. Wanchai said that during April – early May, the hot weather is the highest temperature reaching 42-43 degrees Celsius, resulting in the highest demand for electricity (Peak).
This year the Energy Policy and Planning Office informed that electricity consumption was 4.6% higher than last year.
TISI therefore consider the quality and the efficiency of air conditioners, as it is an electrical appliance that widely used and affects the electricity consumption of the country.
Industrial air conditioning standards was established since 1998. Therefore, it is appropriate to review standards by canceling the original TIS 1529-2541 standard and setting new air conditioning standards with the security requirements TIS 1529-25XX, which is defined as mandatory standards, in order to meet the modern standards, suitable for changing technology and comply with international standards IEC 60335-2-40: 2013 which is internationally accepted by the scope of the new standard covering the types of air condition, including mobile, floor-to-ceiling windows and ceiling mounting with a total cooling capacity of not more than 18,000 W or about 60,000 BTU.
This standard defines electrical access protection heat generation, leakage current, moisture resistance, overload protection of transformers heat and fire resistance and rust resistance.
In addition, the amount of combustible refrigerant is also determined to be in a safe quantity for use. Therefore, in the use of air conditioners should be selected to suit the area specified by the user manual. In order to prevent potential hazards, the anchor is in progress to declare as a mandatory standard. Therefore asking entrepreneurs, both those who do and importers of such products prepare before TISI, Ministry of Industry will declare as a mandatory standard.
TISI Secretary general added that currently TISI has announced 112 standards controlling the industrial products must meet the requirements according to the standards, to protect consumers to be safe from using products according to the controlled items.
