Thailand has handed over the SGATAR to the Republic of Korea

On 2nd November 2023, during the closing ceremony of the 52nd SGATAR Annual Meeting, Dr.Kulaya Tantitemit, the Director-General of the Comptroller General’s Department acting Director-General of Thailand’s Revenue Department as the host of the meeting, handed over the SGATAR flag to Mr.Changki Kim
Commissioner of the National Tax Service of the Republic of Korea, signifying the transfer of hosting responsibility for the SGATAR Annual Meeting. The 53rd SGATAR Annual Meeting will be held in 2024 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Concurrently, Dr.Kulaya Tantitemit, the Chair of SGATAR, concluded the 52nd SGATAR Annual Meeting by stating that during the past 3 days, participants collaborated to explore innovative ideas and strategies, aiming for a fair, efficient, and transparent tax ecosystem and resulting in valuable recommendations. Dr.Kulaya emphasised that collaboration among participants would lead to advancements in tax administration in the Asia-Pacific region. She also expressed gratitude to all participants, including delegates from 18 member jurisdictions and observers from 11 international organisations, distinguished speakers from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), and the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, the SGATAR Taskforce, as well as Mr.Nirandara Prachuabmoh, Secretary-General for the meeting and the meeting management teams from Thailand’s Revenue Department.
After the closing ceremony of the meeting, Dr.Kulaya presented souvenirs to the participants, which were elephant statues from Elephant Parade, a social enterprise aimed at raising awareness for the need of elephant conservation. 20% of Elephant Parade’s net profits will be donated to elephant welfare and conservation projects.
Thailand will serve as the Chair of SGATAR and SGATAR Taskforce until a new SGATAR Chair is elected at the 53rd SGATAR Annual Meeting. In the meantime, the SGATAR Taskforce will be responsible for implementing the 2024 SGATAR Work Programme.
