DIW Urged Factories Saves Water Through The Drought Crisis.
22-4-2019– Department of Industrial Works (DIW) urged factories across the country saves water through the drought crisis.Requested cooperation to prevent water shortage during the dry season.
DIW focus on 3-R policy, Reduce-Reuse- Recycle to increase management efficiency, ready to send the team to inspect the factory to prevent factories releasing wastewater.
Mr. Thongchai Chavalitphichet, Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works (DIW.), Ministry of Industry revealed that the Department of Industrial Works has requested to industrial factories nationwide for cooperation to save water usage in the industrial sector and reduce the amount of wastewater from the factory to prevent water shortage during the dry season with the implementation of 3R policy (Reducing-Reduce, Reuse-Reuse, Recycle-Recycling) in maximizing water usage efficiency, reduce water useless consumption as needed, including repeated use of water and treatment for reusing water in addition to save water.
It also promoted the awareness of helping to protect the environment in accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Industry.
“This period is dry season. The amount of water is low.Need industrial works operaters to help take care of the operation of the business not to affect the environment not to cause trouble to the people.”

At present, through the website of the Department of Industrial Works, it has also publishes a manual to encourage factory operators to use water for maximum efficiency by taking the information from the manual to practice the efficient water management and lower costs in the factory
From January to December 2018, the staff inspected the factory and found that 92 plants has waste water problem
caused by business operations.
The Department of Industrial Works has ordered 91 cases corrections and the remaining 1 case are in the process of improvement.
In the year 2019, there were 21 problems with wastewater and currently the Department of Industrial Works has resolved 17 problems. The remaining 4 are under close examination and follow-up.
“The Department of Industrial Works plans to go into strict examination and educating the factories. The Department has organized a team down to the area to inspect industrial plants continuously.
If found the drainage of water from the factory exceeds the standard as required by law, it will instruct the factory to improve.If in the case of severe damage, the factory will be temporarily discontinued.
Once the deadline has been reached but it is found that the factory does not have any corrections, the department will order to stop the operation permanently and proceed with legal proceedings, “said Mr. Thongchai.
Mr. Thongchai said that the current water situation, there is about 50,000 million cubic meters of water in reservoirs or in dams, which accounted to 59% of full capacity.
Expected that during April-May the water consumption of industrial sector
would be approximately 720 million cubic meters.
The industrial sector will have about 3% water consumption, while 62% of water consumed by agriculture sector and 11% for consumption.
However, it is expected that the normal rainfall will occure in late May.
