Somkid Assigned BOI 2019 Four Major Works.
9-1-2019—Today Dr.Somkid Jatusipitak Deputy Prime Minister chaired the press conference joined by Dr.Kobsak Pootrakulkul Minister of Prime Minister Office and Miss Duangjai BOI Secretary General,
Join Hand with China-Japan Hongkong to Put on Thailand Competitiveness build Internalstrenght by economic inequality elimination measures to guard economic uncertainty.
Deputy Prime Minister Romo is disclosed that BOI had achieved its 2018’s goal of performance both in the investment value and the number of the submitted projects, as 932 billion baht worth of the 1,126 projects were submitted for the investment promotion in 2018.
“We never satisfied in what’s being, government must continue to be well prepared under the global uncertainty aituation, we have five months from now to be well prepared, expected that the second half of this year will be good, while the first half must be well beware. In the first half of this year we must be active in the investment attraction competitiveness, if we stay ignore and just waiting for the election we would lose others that more competitive.
“The first assignment for BOI this year is Thailand must continue taking Thailand Economic to another step. If the relevant law to have Hongkong established its First Regional Representative Office in Thailand could be done in time , We will met Mrs.Carrie Lam Hongkong’s Chief Executive on February 8th, to have Hongkong Regional Representative Office in Thailand established, including consulting to have Cyber Port established in EEC, but if the law could not be done in time, the appointment must be delay.”
“The second assignment is, this year as Thailand plan to hold Thai-China-Japan joint meeting in March 2019 which will be the next opportunity for Thai economic that could not be missed, to gain the benefit as the first third country for China and Japan joint investment location to avoid the effect from trade war.”
“Yesterday I met with JETRO president, JETRO is planning to organize the meeting for China-Japan investors that want to invest in Thailand. It could be METI to be the connector for the investors in the meeting, by the way it is the protocol matter to be solved.BOI mus be well prepared for the tri-parties meeting, when China and Japan who are both the world large investor will come to Thailand.”said Dr.Somkid.
“The third work of BOI this year would be BOI annual seminar which basically plan to be organized in March 2019, which will be continue from the last year theme ‘Thailand economic for the new high.”
“The fourth work of BOI this year is to roadshow in Kansai of Japan, for local to local coordination, after Thailand had successfully cooperated with Mie last year.Now we are considering the appropriate agenda for the roadshown in Kansai arond the end of this month”said Deputy Somkid.
This year by the global uncertainty situation, the investment promotion target for BOI is 750 billion baht, close to the target of last year (720 billion baht.).This year we will focusing on project quality than quantity.BOI’s additional role will be to build the economic equality, over the past industry promotion role, in the future BOI will have the role to lead the national development, any business have the character of the investment for local development, such as the local transportation or logistic for the linkage to the secondary city, the tourism related business and local education business will gain extra higher promotion. Aiming to encourage the big and strong business support to create work and more income for local people, then this kind of goal must be clearly done by BOI’s budget and the budget for the competitiveness.
“Any business support create work for more income for local people must be provided the higher promotion incentive than the investment in the city.”said Deputy prime Minister Somkid.
Deputy Somkid said after EEC had concretely formed, this year I wish to see the real tools to have the Southern Economic Zone provinces like Chumporn, Nakornsi Thammarat, Surin and Ranong successfully promoted. Especially in tourism industry, while North Easthern Economic Zone will be certainly seen by this year, in the same time Northern economic zone which has plenty of stat up, could be as well promoted by BOI’s policy.
BOI must have the team to create the environment to build start up that might be able to support by Hongkong’s cyber strength after they come, in order to reduce Thailand’s inequality.
Dr.Somkid said the inequality reduction work for BOI is including to promote housing for less income project, which could not attract much investor in the past, while The One Million Houses project of Government Housing Bank found there are much high demand remain, BOI should havem easures to promote such project as an importan opportunity to help the less income people.”said Dr.Somkid.
At the press conferen today Deputy Somkid disclosed that BOI had achieved about 932 billion baht worth of the 1,126 projects submitted for the investment promotion in 2018, 45% higher than 2017’s. The number is beyond the target both in value and number of the project. The projects submitted in 2018 comprised of New S-Curve Industry 60%, S-Curve 24% and others industry 16%.
“Electricity, renewable energy, air transportation industry and IHQ (International head quarter) and the project to invest in the three province of EEC area accounted to 76% of the total” according to Deputy Prime Minister Dr.Somkid.
