KBank hopes that this initiative will be the starting point for societal engagement, encouraging all Thais to ‘go green’ in order to help conserve the environment and save the world together, while additional programs will be launched subsequently.
Mr. Krit Jitjang, KBank President, said that global warming is not a new phenomenon. The extreme weather events we are experiencing are mainly caused by human activities. The situation is deteriorating, as evidenced by numerous natural disasters and other consequences. It’s now high time for us to earnestly join hands and immediately take bold and collective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to save our world. Climate change has reached a state of global crisis. The world is calling for emergency action to tackle this pressing issue, as evidenced by multiple measures implemented by several countries. Some examples include the EU’s plan to end the sale of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars by 2035 and to start imposing a carbon border tax on imports in 2023, as well as China’s aim for carbon neutrality by 2060. Such awareness has also been actively raised in Thailand, with the government’s goal to reach net zero by 2065, along with the issuance of special measures to provide subsidies and reduce import taxes for electric vehicles in 2022-2025.
Based on our firm belief that sustainability operations will ensure the survival and growth of our organization, together with our customers and the country as a whole, we are committed to being fully responsible for sustainability achievement in different dimensions, including the environmental aspect. KBank has always adhered to environmental responsibility, starting from our operations as evidenced by our energy-efficient buildings, biomass energy consumption, use of EV vehicles and energy-saving equipment. We have also provided support to our customers via our Green Finance products, which totaled Baht 65.2 billion in 2021, consisting of Baht 17.5 billion in green loans extended to environmentally friendly businesses and Baht 47.7 billion in green bonds and environmental funds.
The launch of the GO GREEN Together Project today is part of KBank’s endeavors to encourage Thais to help create a green society together. KBank is notable as the first bank to help connect and promote a comprehensive green ecosystem in Thailand, beginning with the launch of its GREEN ZERO loan campaign, which offers a complete loan package bundled with special promotions for both retail and corporate clients. Under this campaign, KBank has set aside a loan limit of 3 billion Baht. Details are as follows:
